Clusters
Experience shows that a well functioning collaboration between businesses, universities and the public sector is the key to the successful industrial development.
In Region Borås there are a number of established clusters where businesses, local authorities and educational/research institutions make it possible to develop specific industries and growth in the region.
Textiles
There’s a long history of textile production in Sjuhärad. People have supported themselves by developing new materials and producing textiles for many hundreds of years. Today the region is teeming with modern businesses whose development is built on historical knowledge. There’s everything from fibre manufacturing, leather tanning for interior décor and the automotive industry, safety clothing, fashion companies, climate control textile companies, technical textile production and much more.
The Textile Fashion Center is a place that stands out because of its unique surroundings and its unique concept. There’s potential here for new shops, businesses, products and research results but also for further qualitative study and a broad collaboration between culture and education that is facilitated by colocation.
At Smart Textiles research meets business, educational institutions and the public sector to find future solutions today. As part of the University of Borås, Smart Textiles offers a complete concept which focuses on experimental research, prototype development and financial support. They are your obvious partner when you have a textile idea ready for implementation or a need that can be met by textile technology.
Marketplace Borås, in the Textile Fashion Center, is a collaboration between the City of Borås, the University of Borås, the Nordic Textile Academy and the business sector, who all work together in Marketplace Borås to strengthen Borås and Sjuhärad’s position in the fashion, textile and design industries. Single actors become bigger players thanks to Marketplace Borås’s business network.

E-commerce & Logistics
Region Borås has long been associated with the retail sector and is the leading area for distance selling in Scandinavia. We have built up excellent logistics solutions and a well developed infrastructure which gives us an advantage over others, and provides the basis for successful e-commerce. But what really makes the region unique is its people. It’s packed with experienced entrepreneurs who have the determination to make their visions and big ideas real. A mutual outlook and passion for Region Borås has given rise to the E-commerce City Borås Society.
E-commerce City Borås was started in 2014 as a non-profit organisation by three ambitious e-commerce sellers from Borås, and the first move even then was to set up the popular breakfast meetings. The year after, in 2015, it became a cooperative society, and the vision of consolidating Borås as Scandinavia’s go to commerce hub was agreed. A vision that the society and its member businesses work daily to achieve!
The society’s aim is to develop the region’s position as a modern commerce area into the future, and create opportunities for investment, establishment and growth.
E-commerce City Borås is a platform bringing together business and trade, the City of Borås, the University of Borås and other educational providers. Our vision is to see Region Borås become Scandinavia’s go to commerce hub!
Creative Cluster
Creative Cluster is a forum where individuals from creative and cultural industries meet to discuss new forms of collaborative work. The starting point is the idea that these industries don’t just generate great value for people and society in themselves, they also are key driving forces for other trades and industries. Where would a car be, for instance, without its design, branding and marketing?
That’s why access to art and culture in a land, region or city isn’t just a question of democracy, but also one of economics, to the highest possible degree. Creative Cluster’s aim is therefore to support businesses, development opportunities and networks in the city of Borås.
The promoter and responsible authority for Creative Cluster is the City of Borås Business Department. Creative Cluster, named Creative Camp then, was started in spring 2012.
