Mark is a place to grow in. Several different industries operate in the county, many within textile manufacture which also a strong part of Mark’s cultural heritage. Unemployment is low here. A large number of people work in manufacturing or extractive industries, but also in farming, construction, energy and commerce.

Thanks to its convenient location with Borås, Gothenburg and Varberg as well as Landvetter Airport nearby, and lower house prices compared to the cities, Mark attracts a lot of new residents.  The county is growing, and the local authority has a housing support programme which aims to offer a varied choice of accommodation all over the county. There is a secondary school which offers theoretical and practical courses of study and also provides a sports course open to students from all over Sweden.

Educational standards in the county are high. Year 9 students tested in spring term 2016 placed Mark county 55th out of 290 counties.

Everyone in Mark county should have access to great culture and a meaningful leisure time. There’s a rich community life here that many take part in. Mark also provides fantastic nature experiences, with extensive forests, valleys, lakes and rivers to enjoy, offering not just exciting adventures in the wilds but also opportunities to relax and just enjoy the good life in the county. There are many sport clubs in Mark such as Marbo Basket, competing in the top women’s league. Handball, football, golf and floorball are other sports many participate in in the region. During summer several local festivals are held in the county. Other attractions for residents and visitors are Rydal’s Museum and the many textile outlets.
